Melanie Waggoner - Prekindergarten Teacher

Dear Preschool Families,

Welcome to Mrs. Waggoner’s Preschool class!  I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you!

Here is a little about me:  I have been teaching preschool and pre-k for 18 years.  Before coming to Redeemer, I was the preschool teacher at Shepherd’s Lambs Preschool.  I have been married to my husband, Todd, for 24 years, who is a locomotive engineer.

I have two sons, Thomas, who is 31, and Dillon who is 21.   Both live in Kokomo.

Thomas works at Circle K as an assistant manager.

Dillon was a Redeemer student from Kindergarten until 8th grade.  He is a Criminal justice major at IUK, and is currently in training at the Marion police department.

I like being involved in the community.  I am a member of Howard County Historical Society,  Lutheran Early Response Team, Redeemer Safety Specialist, and I am a Little Free Library Steward.

I have two dogs, a Pitbull named Sargent Crazy Face, and a not so Great Dane named Bosco Sirpeesalot Diablo.

Curriculum areas we will focus on include: religion, name writing, letter and number recognition, fine and gross motor skills, science, math, social studies, and social skills. That is just the tip of the iceberg!  I follow the standards set by the state of Indiana, as well as the standards set by Indiana District LCMS.

I do not use a reward system for discipline unless I find it absolutely necessary.  Rules of the classroom are recited responsively. Consequences for behavior are determined on a case by case basis.

Special classroom events planned include: Grandparents day, class parties for holidays, The Mini 500, and several field trips.

Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement.  I hope you will make it a priority to attend as many school-sponsored events as possible.
